Bringing an ambitious film company to life

Client.

Eyesight Productions, led by Alex Murray, is an ambitious film production company ambitiously creating short films, crafting animation, and writing stories to entertain a new generation of viewers online.

This was all a hobby at one point for Alex, but he wanted to take things to the next level. Therefore, the next logical step was hopping online. In 2018, he approached charlie. to design and build a refreshing, modern, and colourful website to become the hub for his films in the future.

Objectives.

• Build the online presence of Eyesight.

• Create a hub for all future films.

• Add value, for repeat user visits.

1. Pushing Wix to the max

Eyesight Productions’ new website was an ambitious project, full of passion and ideas - which brought expectations.

The brief was to create a modern, accessible, and interesting portfolio to showcase films, allow people to discover what Eyesight was all about, and lead to further collaborations. To achieve these goals, we boldly chose Wix as a platform of choice. Instantly, this could have been an issue to some, but Wix was chosen to allow easy content management after launch, deliver ultimate creative flexibility on a very agile project and be cost-effective in the time scale available. This decision saved hours of time not just during the project, but years afterward, as new design changes can be implemented immensely fast.

2. Designing colourfully

From the very first design iteration, everything was designed with a functionally responsive interface across devices. And we had creative control to build upon the brand.

The website was one of the first online steps of Alex’s ambitious plans, which gave control over certain artwork directions going forward. Collaboratively, we chose a strong colour palette - blue was selected as the primary colour to draw connotations with the sky, and looking at dreaming big for the brand. To occasionally complement this simplistic blue is a hot yellow, drawing reference to the sun - going perfect with the ‘sky’ blue.

In general, Eyesight’s website was designed to be fully responsive with stackable and basic block elements. Animations allow a seamless experience across devices, and the website should be easily accessible wherever you may be at the time.

3. Showcasing film

There’s no better way to showcase films than with large imagery, film (obviously) and stunning animation.

Across the website, we make use of vivid imagery ahead of short content.

This is most notable in the projects section, where we put A LOT of emphasis on large parallax imagery to separate the content and tell a story. It was supposed to give that ‘wow factor’ and be legitimately engaging.

4. Ongoing support

After the website launched, charlie. was assigned the task of maintaining content management tasks & campaigns.

It was key we kept giving users a reason to re-visit the website. Working closely with Alex, we have crafted an engaging film blog that has content every month and run special seasonal campaigns to give the website a living and breathing feel. Every Christmas we add snow to the website and decorate every page with festive colours and icons, and during Halloween, we now annually put the site into a dark mode (spooky!). Alex is a filmmaker, which is a creative profession, and it’s our job to be as creative as he is with the website.

- POST GO-LIVE SUPPORT -

Pushing film on social.

After the launch of the website, in addition to supporting the website with seasonal campaigns, we helped promote brand new films through simplistic social assets. The most involvement we had from a social standpoint is for ‘Obsessiveness’, which conveniently also is one of the most viewed films from Eyesight Productions.

Client feedback.

“My knowledge of web design is extremely limited, but when I saw the work of Charlie Wright I immediately considered him as a suitable candidate for the construction of my own. I am an upcoming filmmaker who needed a website which had simplicity, had all the relevant information needed for my production company and ways to get in touch. Charlie delivered on all these factors and even contributed ideas of his own to create a free-flowing, easy to use website. I am extremely happy with the end result.”
