Engaging darts fans on social for PDC Supplier, Burghley Sports

Burghley Sports is the leading darts merchandise provider for the PDC. They create clothing for the major darts events and players. Chances are if you’re a darts fan, you own or have seen their fun merchandise.

At just the age of 15, I was approached to provide social media management, content creation, and community management for their various channels online. In a fast-moving industry like sports, social is key to staying relevant, engaging with fans and ultimately empowering purchases.

Burghley Sports & Merchandise have multiple Twitter accounts, Facebook pages, and an Instagram profile. The audience covers around 5000 people across these channels, with access to 100,000 being a supplier to the PDC.

Understanding the darts scene

I took time to understand the audience of Burghley Darts/Merchandise. It became apparent that quirky and informal content performed consistently better across all social channels, particularly Twitter. This knowledge helped form our small content strategy at the time.

Hyping up merch

Every season and event, there was new merchandise. It was my job to gather design assets and create content with the aim of generating sales. In particular, over Christmas, there are annual festive jumpers that I helped promote on social media. We used photography provided to showcase the jumpers for darts fans.

Results are in

Thank you so much for all your input on running the social media side of Burghley Sports and PDC Merchandise. Your knowledge on this has proved to be a fantastic asset, as we have seen a considerable surge in our sales from both the online shop and Burghley Merchandise enquiries. Hope to continue our working relationship for a long time to come.
